Walter Howato (1921 - 2003)
, Hopi, Reed Clan, was one of the men most responsible for the revival of the "Old Style" Kachina dolls. After graduation from the Santa Fe Indian School, Walter and his friend Navajo painter R.C. Gorman went for work for Walt Disney Studios where he was a painter and interior decorator. Today Walter Howato dolls are highly valued.  Many are preserved at the Heard Museum, as well as in collections around the world.
